Jim -- Hmmm, where'd you got those numbers?

From the Compaq Online Store:
compaq.com

Presario 300MHZ PII is $1599 w/out Monitor. And, what's this about gasoline? Compaq offers free shipment on all Presario models.

(I would not be surprised to find that retailers are willing to offer better pricing for those motivated to shop.)

Jim,
You can bury your head in the sand as much as you like, it doesn't change the world. I can buy a complete Compaq system (as I spec'd) from three different retail stores, none of whom is going out of business, including a $300 monitor, printer and scanner for under $1500.

There are tremendous incentives being offered by Compaq, HP, NEC and others to the retailers to move the "newest" systems from these companies. The 400 MHz PII systems are going for $1799 - $1999 including monitor, printer and scanner.

BWDIK.
