Sure not slight of hand nor a strategy to dump under performers. From the "Qualcomm/Linkabit Story", the effort of the founders was to build a major telecommunications business based on CDMA technologies. This includes: 1) Research .... Ideas, Big Plans 2) Pilot Commercialization ... Omintracs 3) More Research ..... Patents 3) Strategic Alliances .... Accepted Standard 4) Manufacturing Capacity ... ASICS, Phones, Infrastructure, little buck$ 5) Network Delivery .... Nextwave, G*, Pegaso, Ozphone, WLL's 6) Big Buck$ ... Death and Taxes The first four steps have been executed pretty well. It is now time to consolidate stage 5 startups. It is important to remember here that most of the profits (as in the past) are still going to be used to fund the next (biggest/riskiest) step. Who better to lead the way than the man at the front of the parade. He will focus new energy on building a Global Telecom powerhouse with significant operations/partners in every country of the world. I wonder if $ill is getting envious.
