>>"So this has the "ayes" outweigh the "nays" by about 5 to 3."<<

How can this be true when the overall vote was 50% for and 50% against?

Percentages are the most manipulated numbers in the universe.

Alex:

What if a poll were taken in Mississippi like this?

Please give us your opinion on the state returning to and enforcing the practice of slavery:

Strongly favor: 50%
Kinda favor: 10%
No opinion: 5%
Kinda oppose: 9%
Strongly oppose: 26%

Does this mean that the state should then violate the basic rights of its citizens and return to slavery? By the same token, what right does the state have, or public opinion, to dictate the private rights of American individuals who may want to smoke in a bar that would allow smoking?

My answer: NONE. All politicians who voted for this should be impeached as it violates a basic individual right and violates both the California and the U.S. Constitutions.
