Big Eye, Yongzhi recently identified the platform as a Stemme sailplane.
This is a powered glider and has a propeller which I believe is stowable and which is deployed from a hatch behind the cockpit. Stemme also offer the plane in a UAV version.
The recent test validated the communications system but the real problem, as you have stated, is the plane's station-keeping ability.
I am somewhat reassured by the involvement of JPL in the plane's control system; I am sure that if there were doubts about the platform JPL would have raised them. I would be very interested to know the actual duration of the test and the platform's time on station,
