Greetings DLL, The land promised to Israel was CONDITIONAL upon their obedience to Almighty God. Deut:28, clearly details the blessings of obedience and the curses of disobedience. Their are numerous other scriptures I could list stating that they would inherit the land, providing they obey God. We see that the final curses of the Law was visited upon this people for their disobedience around 67-70 AD. If you are not familiar with Deut 28, please read the whole chapter. History records the horrors and atrocities that the Romans witnessed upon entering Jerusalem, and then levelling the city to the ground around 70AD. Josephus, a Jewish Historian of that time records for us the realities of Deut 28., coming to pass upon this people. Please read Deut 28:45-68 for a description of what the Roman generals witnessed. DLL, please remember that Abraham, who is our Father according to the Promise, never for one moment was looking for a piece of real estate that was promised him. At the time of Sarahs death he had to BUY a piece of the land that God had promised him to bury his dead. Heb.11:9-10 states, Abraham lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land ( not his home ) dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. Abraham looked ahead and saw that city, the New Jerusalem. True Christians are now part of this Heavenly city , the New Jerusalem, because according to Eph2:6, God " has raised us up with Him , and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus ". Jesus rules now through his Body, the Church. With regard to the word " everlasting " that you refer to; please consider this; Circumcision and Passover was also everlasting, to the children of Israel, however we know that they have both been transcended by something far greater in the " Spiritual " and that Old Testament Circumcision of the flesh is now become circumcision of the " heart " ( new birth ), while the Passover meal is now the reality of the true bread of Life , the Lord Jesus Christ. The root of the Christian faith is Judaism, Abraham , Isaac and Jacob, while the flower is the Church, the Body of Christ. The Old Covenant was replaced by the New Covenant by Jesus Christ at Calvary. God Himself destroyed everthing needed to practise Judaism in 70AD. It is now Zionism that raises its ugly head to challenge the Body of Christ, the Israel of God. May God grant you grace to see what I say is according to His Most Holy Word. Robert
