Video & Laptop remarks at AM

<<Did NXTL expand on video capabilities or laptop users at the annual meeting?>>

A question was asked about 3rd Generation telecommunications. Akerson responded that we are about Generation 1.5. He then invited Barry West (VP & Chief Technical Officer) to respond.West said that we are at least 5 years away (video). If you want I can go back to tape for exact statement.

Akerson stated that next year they will introduce a new data product - first high speed active data wireless product in the market. Capacity will be 33-45 kilobites over time vs. telephone 28 kilobites now. He said that customers will get better service from Nextel.

I expect, with the introduction of xDSL that will be utilized by the Baby Bells (millions of kilobites upstream and downstream) this year (USW, et al), and in the coming years (all the Baby Bells), and the high speed data transmission that will be available from the cable companies, that this will become a very competitive (and expensive if you want/need the highest speed) and lucrative service. Actually all the Baby Bells offer ISDN service now, about 128 kilobites/s capability, at outrageous prices.

Hope this helps.
