Betty,

Centocor's drug Avakine is not for sepsis. Today they are looking for rec. on severe forms of a nasty autoimmune condition known as Crohn's disease. The drug is an antibody that recognizes TNF-alpha. The sepsis angle is that antibodies of this kind have been tested (Bayer/Celltech, perhaps others) for sepsis without success.

Avakine is also in trials to treat less severe Crohn's as well as rheumatoid arthritis. I do not think Centocor is testing Avakine for sepsis at this time.
