Brian,

First let me say that it is a pleasure to communicate. Second I will admit my ignorance of the current situation; and never made claim to a knowledge base of current names and situations. Third, your points about recent elections is well taken. There is is new breed of republican coming up in Hawaii and they are more aware of the feelings of the people.

I'll do my best to get a handle on some of this stuff. I will also try and tap my sources close to democratic party happenings to get an idea of what they are planning; not because I agree with it
particularly but because it might prove interesting discussion.

Don't kid yourself about Hawaii being that unique. Go live a few years in Fiji, or Samoa, or any other major island group and you will come home with an understanding of Hawaii that you can not get from
living within the womb of The Land. I'm not being cute here, I sincerely mean it.

An example: You know someone who you worked with 10 years ago who is now working on the other island. She is married to a fellow who has quite an important position with the county government. When you need to do some political action work you give her a call and talk to her about it. She talks to her husband and they make sure that everything is done to insure that the proper permits for specific facilities
are obtained and in order. This is not a real situation. And it happens other places just as well; but in an island environment things have a way or wrapping back on themselves and things get really complicated fast. You never know quite who you are talking to; what their full affiliations or their contacts.

Its what makes island politics island politics. Don't discount it. It is apart of the culture like your face is a part of your body and spirit. I have ceased being upset by it; and always enjoy a smile when I see it at work doing its number on the soul of the 'nation'.

To be quite straight with you when I look back on my own voting record in hawaii, I have to admit to favoring a number of republicans when that was a no win situation. I don't believe I have ever voted against frank fasi, whatever his party. And I remember a time when the libertarians were marginally popular. I certainly favor anything that can be done for small business; and regard the 'they all just thieves' attitude of some legislators as something that would come from professional government workers.

Tell me, what specific points is this republican candidate for governor touting for the fall?

regards and Aloha,

mnmuench
