My flu started with mild stomach stuff, then turned into stay-at-home malaise, then went bronchial. Now I have the grumpy achies.

Christine, I was hoping you'd see that my answer was looking for the inane. And I surely found it! Just so we are in agreement that mandatory anything is not a light topic.
Unless it's mandatory VOLUNTARY labor, of course! :-D
Now there's a bit of language that woulda made "Smoky Joe" Goebbels proud!

I do worry about a hint of duplicity I detect however. Let me explain. On the one hand, you pejorate their "society of acddicts". On the other, some posts back you had an argument for the moral parity of alcoholics with the rest of us.
Here's a point where I see an attempt to be overly fair do damage.
Yes, there is a small subclass of alcoholics who are gone from the first drink. But these are the minority by a long shot. Most addicts, alcoholics, smokers, what-have-you,... started voluntarily. And a continuing irreducible act of will is necessary to continue feeding the habit. I think addicts need to face some irreducible level of accountability for their state. Otherwise - what reason do they have to mend their ways?
