hey mudcat I look at this at longterm hold
In my eyes this is still a start up company
with lots of products coming I am willing to
wait it out for the long term let them developed
the drugs and get them to market. and see how they
do...... This company should be in the high risk
area of anybodys portfolio ! The thing I like the most
about this company is there pipeline How many Bio-techs
have a pipeline like Ligands none that I know of....
There is one other Bio-tech that I am big on that is truly
underfollowed and that is Cypros Pharmaceutical (cyp)
They have 2 drugs going into Phase lll testing for 3
indications and the markets are HUGE.... for two indications
and the third one is not two bad either....but with any
Bio-tech they can crash fast.....so you got to be careful....

<< This stock is pitiful! >>

Hey! I've made good money trading in and out of LGND, and so have others. If you've lost money, investing in LGND, over the last two years, I feel bad for you. Perhaps, if you put aside about half of your holdings in LGND, say about 100 shares, for day trading, you might do better.

Another stock that hasn't done too well over the last two years is GEMS. It has plunged from the $50's down to the single digits. I've made quite a bit of money trading that stock also.

Right now I am long LGND, and intend to stay that way until the situation changes (maybe). But, I trade other stocks, including options, to try and make money.

Bottom line: Do your own research, and make your own decisions. Like the rest of us, if you make bad investments, the blame falls at your feet.

Good luck, Bob

ps: GO LGND!!!

Mudcat, I suspect that many long term holders of LGND are also frustrated at LGND's price action and are ready to sell. In fact that is what I implied last night when I said that a major shakeout is in the works.

Today's high volume (with several 100K blocks going off at the ask) and little price movement comes as no surprise. I think that weak hands are ready to throw in the towel, which is what is required for a major rally.

Several months ago CNBC commented on individual investors. They were quite a heterogeneous group, but the one thing that the many individuals had in common was an inclination to sell at lows.

LGND has matured quite a bit since the LLY deal, but the sector has continued to disappoint, so the group has really underperformed lately. Many big boys are now ready to hop on board and many major brokerages are ready to initiate coverage. Both groups of course would like to act when LGND's price is low, as it is now.

I look for heavy volume to continue. Individuals may be squeezed a bit more, and Farallon may also help keep a lid on LGND's price. However, an approval rec next week on ONTAK should get the big boys stepping up to the plate. It began in earnest yesterday, and I expect it to continue big time next week.

I actually would like to see some of the moaners and groaners sell out soon. There are many waiting in the wings for such an event to happen.

>>This stock is pitiful! I'm ready to sell a good portion of my shares, if we see good news next week on Ontak. Like Fugazi said its dead money.<<

Hallelujah!! God be praised!! If you are agreeing with Fugazi, then a sharp rise must be just around the corner!!

LGND appears to be fixated on $14 ("it's Friday, so LGND must be $14"). Looks like the hope that $14 was the 'base that LGND was going to use as a launching pad' when the NDA was filed fizzled like the rocket to $25 that LGND was going to become.

Without any news this summer, is it possible that LGND can go even lower than the $14 that I predicted?
