C-BAND INDUSTRY GROUP LAUNCHES UNIFIED MARKETING PLAN; C-Band Partnership to Drive Consistent Marketing Message SAN DIEGO, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- "In the direct-to-home satellite broadcast world ... C-Band is the preeminent consumer satellite system." That is the message of the C-Band Partnership, a newly formed industry group comprised of C-Band industry leaders set up to inform consumers -- both those who already own a C-Band dish and those contemplating the leap into C-Band -- about the advantages and pleasures to be found in C-Band satellite television. Goals of the Partnership include: helping current C-Band consumers find quality, reputable C-Band dealers who focus on excellent service and sales support; and creating a marketing platform for the industry to share a consistent marketing message across all C-Band focused organizations. The group's activities are led by Dorian Simpson, National Sales Manager for Consumer Products in the Satellite Data Network Systems unit of General Instrument Corporation (NYSE: GIC), with participation from other industry leaders. The project is funded and supported by contributions from C-Band programmers and program providers. "C-Band programmers and packagers are all very committed to C-Band," said Simpson. "Through this program, we're combining activities and resources for an extensive marketing effort in support of the industry." "We're confident that C-Band -- the system offering the most choice and value, and the highest audio and video quality -- will continue to be a viable satellite service well into the future," said Lori Megown, Director of Marketing for HBO. The C-Band Partnership's industry-wide service network and consumer call center will be set up to connect C-Band consumers to quality, certified repair service and a toll-free number, 1-877-CbandTV, will be established for consumers to reach the nearest authorized dealer in their area. This service will be operated by Logix Development Corporation. "The program is designed to leverage C-Band advantages while overcoming two major challenges: connecting the 2.1 million loyal C-Band customers to quality dealers and providing a common marketing message across all C-Band organizations," said Mike Schroeder, President of National Programming Services. The group's plan calls for using the brand "C-Band TV" with the tagline "Master Broadcast Television" to be used consistently across the C-Band industry to establish brand and identity for C-Band, according to Schroeder. The communications portion of the plan includes training for customer service representatives across the industry, dealer and distributor seminars, a C-Band TV Web site, consumer advertising in C-Band program guides, common C-Band TV product literature and other announcements to the industry. The objective is to communicate the overall advantages of staying with C-Band or getting into the new digital/analog C-Band world. A packet of information describing the program will soon be mailed out to all industry participants including C-Band dealers, hardware distributors, programmers, program providers, program guide producers, and equipment manufacturers.
