interview with manager of commerce growth and income fund.
Despite some trimming in the financial sector, the fund's largest stock is Conseco Inc. (CNC)
at 3%.

Although the fund had stock in Conseco before the company agreed last month to acquire
Green Tree Financial Corp. (GNT) in a stock swap, Bartlett said he added to the position
when Conseco's price dropped from 58 to about 48.

Some in the financial community would attribute the inexpensive stock price to the company's
growing almost entirely through by acquisitions, he said. But he is optimistic about Conseco,
which he said has built a substantial marketing and distribution organization for its financial
products.
