freeus,

for a stock like DELL, buying and holding will probably win over a trader who follows strict indicators. However, for the overall market and for the "average stock", the buying and selling method historically has proven to be far inferior to trading. This doesn't even include the interest one makes when the cash is out of the market and in some interest giving account. Martin Zweig (sp??) has done a lot of this number crunching...I suggest you read his book if you are interested in the "indicators".

Freeus, what's amazing is that you're the only one who said amazing! Traders take it as a given that they can beat the market. But when you look at how much they must beat the market to simply equal where us buy and holders are it is truly mind-boggling. And in the example I gave I assumed one trade per month. Just imagine how bad it gets if you're analyzing day-trading!
