Hi Doug. Intel, Sun, HWP, CPQ/DEC and ICOS.

It looks like you did well getting out of Intel last year. I had to sell 1000 shares last fall due to a margin call. I was pretty upset at that time but I guess I could look at it now as a stroke of luck. I did sell some more a cpl of months ago and it promptly went back up but of course is now a lot lower than my last sale. I did not do this in secret. I put it on when I sold.

I don't think all this is as black as T.K. paints it. Intel has already stated today that it is no big deal that they had to move the Merced to mid 2000. No problem with the technology, only manufacturing stuff. I personally do believe though that this will push the rise of our Intel stock to the back burner. I think that Intel was kind of counting on Merced to lift their profit and to make up for the lower end sales. This looks like it is hurting my HWP also. They are in with Intel on that Merced chip. Sheesh. This stock is starting to get to me. There is always something lately. I think the worry on the Street about the delay of the Merced is that a competitor will now have more time to come up with a competing chip. Oh well, maybe not. I am sure we would have heard if there was anything like this in the offing. I don't think we have to worry about AMD and Cyrix etc. on this front. I am sure they still have their production problems and will not by pass Intel. I still keep my chips on Intel. But I did think we would be out of the woods soon and I think this blows my thoughts to pieces. I sure hope I am wrong. Since I am on margin I can't wait forever and ever. I may have to reduce my margin by selling some stocks I have nice profits in. I am not inclined to sell more Intel. But it looks now that we will be getting another very good buying opportunity and I want to have some money on hand.
I think that T.K. is off his rocker with his 5% earnings growth for Intel. I hope he did not inhale something by mistake. Intel is still having a tremendous bottom line and almost every company would give their eye tooth to be in that bad shape as Intel is. gg. It just looks now that higher earnings may not be on the horizon after those touted 2 slow quarters. It may be flat a bit longer. I am sure we will hear a lot more about it. Intel does not seem to be worried about the delay of Merced so I probably should not be either. BUT I AM. It will now be longer before Intel can push more into the high end server market. Sun and DEC/CPQ could be taking advantage of this near term. ( And I do own CPQ) Anyhow, I guess I will grit my teeth and wait for this good buying opportunity should it come. Wow, considering how much money Intel is making, it looks like 70 should be a bargain price. Well, Monday should be interesting.

I am surprised that CNBC is toning down a bit. I guess they are too busy today reporting over and over on ICOS. This company was a traders paradise today. But I will not touch it. Gosh. To think that they are in Phase II trial and some of those analysts are on CNBC talking about it all day. By the time they go into Phase III and then on to the Advisory Panel and then to the real thing, 2 years will have passed and Viagra by PFE is already on its way to be approved in Europe soon. That will make them a Giant step ahead. Those 6 deaths in millions of users are not even worth mentioning as far as PFE is concerned. People with heart problems and using Nitro Gl. etc. are already at risk of dying due to their illness. I guess you are wondering why I am putting this on in response to your post about Intel. Well, maybe you have PFE and heard about ICOS and some of our PFE stock holders may read this post. gg. Saves me another post.

Take care

Sonny
