Holly, The referendum system is not universally loved- I do like the referendum system. It works very well, I am told, in Switzerland, where they have a government like what we might have had if the War Between the States had gone the other way. But there does need to be some way of preventing referenda from passing unconstitutional laws. I am not saying "the masses are asses", but it is true that a lynch mob is the epitome of democracy. The problem is when the judicial system overinterprets the constitution or bends it toward their political bias. And I don't know what to do about that. Jack
