This is my first post. How do you post a message without it being a response?
I had something i wanted to say but could not figure out how to initiate a message.

The short answer is that I don't know. I seems there is some kind of cross reference table that is doing a symbol substitution. For example, if you do a search for Ashton, the returned search page has ASTN substituted for Ashton, and threads pertaining to ASTN are returned. For a broader example, typing Ascend returns a search with ASND substituted, and a list of the upteen jillion threads related to ASND, where never before has so much been posted about so little, save perhaps Bre-X.

My guess is that it is an upgrade-in-progress, and the kinks will be worked out before long.

purething,

Thanks for pointing out the problem. We're trying to make the search screen more useful by pulling up links to quotes, charts, profiles, etc...whenever possible, whether you type in the company name or ticker symbol.

I failed to test enough cases. I believe I have fixed the problem you are referring to. A search on Ashton will now pull up [as it should] all subjects with the word "Ashton", and will not revert to the ticker symbol. You'll still get a quote link to Ashton Technology though, as that's our best guess as to which company you're looking for.

The only case where it will still revert to a ticker symbol is if the company name does not result in any "hits". For example Tellabs has a subject called "TLAB Info" and not "Tellabs". If you type in Tellabs, it will change to TLAB.

Hopefully this is a return to simplicity.

Brad
