alpha will compete with AS/400 and PA-RISC

I thought that NT was not being developed for these processors?
For NT workstations or servers, I said, not 32-bit Unix boxes.

Microsoft is committed (probably in a legalistic way) to NT for Alpha.
The have probably been dragging their feet about 64 bit. Or will
get dragged by their feet.

The delay on Merced is now 1 year from first vapour sighting.
Any planning estimates beyond 1 year out are probably optimistic, in any case.

Anyway the Armageddon has been pushed back a bit.

Oh yeah,
Nope, Intel's manufacturing prowess ...

The stagnation the Intel's design allows the lower positions
to catch up in profitability, see what happened to '486 market.
Intel could of course crush them some more with price cuts, but
it will also be under pressure to bring in positive earnings.

Motorolla might learn how to produce processors again, and
Apple may find an OS that doesn't suck. But this may be reaching too far!
