Caisson, thanks for a very interesting post. A rhetorical question asked in the article suggests Dell's growth is slowing:

The second problem is Dell's projected growth rate. That seems strange, considering analysts expect the company to increase its earnings per share approximately 30% over the next three to five years. But while that rate is very healthy by almost any standards, it is almost sickly in comparison to the average growth rate of 119% that Dell has enjoyed over the last five years.

But I believe that a false comparison is being drawn. We are being asked to compare analysts' expectations of future growth to actual (past) growth. Perhaps we should really be comparing past growth expectations to future growth expectations for a more consistent picture. So here's my question:

What did the analysts consensus long-term forecasts look like in 1994, and 1995, and how did those forecasts compare to actual growth? That appears to me to be a much more cogent basis for analysis.
