<<What effect will the Merced delay have on SGI? Come on now you knowledgeable tekkies and fill the rest of us in. Let's hear some discussion on this.>>

I would say fairly minimal. SGI plans didn't call for moving onto Merced until 2000-2001 timeframe anyway. There are several MIPS processor upgrades (R10K, R12K, R14K) that are planned to go out every 6-9 months until then. This was all publically announced information at the April 15 presentation.

While you're waiting for SGI's next 10-bagger, consider this...

Volkswagon just bought Rolls Royce. Hmmmm, wasn't there an obscure camel-trader guy polluting this thread -WITH THAT SAME BOLD PREDICTION- several months ago? How's he know this stuff???

OK. VW buys Rolls. BMW, also in the hunt, gets really steamed and cancels their contract -effective immediately- to supply Rolls with their much needed 12-cylinder engines. Try starting-up a new Rolls without an engine dd. It simply can't be done...
It gets worse... Now Rolls has to use -VW engines- effective immediately. Can you imagine that? VW engines in a Rolls Royce??? Lift-up the trunk and there it is!!
A VW ENGINE IN THE TRUNK OF A ROLLS ROYCE!!! Even my camels can not contain themselves with laughter! Oh, the shame...

dd, as your trusted friend and your "#1 SGI well-wisher", I strongly suggest you take serious this news and -SELL- a fraction of your SGI shares -RIGHT NOW- and -BUY- yourself a "pre-VW" Rolls Royce... before the new ones hit the showrooms. This advice also comes to you unfettered from a certain all-knowing blacksmith too discreet to ever think about posting a comment here -or anywhere else-... no less touch a keyboard.

Meanwhile, back in the dessert...
