"It is not going to be two separate programs; the Digital piece will eventually disappear into one cohesive, Compaq-centric service strategy," the source said. "Compaq's service philosophy will be Digital's."

If they like their service strategy better, why did they buy Digital? Based on what I read in this article, I am more inclined to think Compaq is going to mess up the whole thing.
