I would think that the answer to both questions is yes. But who can tell what that translates to in stock movement?

The delay of Mercede definitely make Alpha more valuable if MSFT will fully
support. The delay of Mercede will have a impact on MSFT if Alpha can't back up.
I do not think MSFT will bet its future major market on Mercede alone, it is always
safe to have two cards on hand , instead of one.
If you are the IT manager and need the 64 bit technology to meet your need of processing power. If Mercede is not available but Alpha, and which is probably even better, then what are you going to do ? To the IT managers, it does not matter whether it is mercede or Alpha, as long as it offers the true 64 bit power, and software support , and a clear roadmap of future product development.

It seems to me that it may, but I'm not sure. The only way that it would would be if Microsoft was perceived as targeting Alpha with increased enthusiasm as a result.

I also talked to an IT manager today who said that Compaq is still thought of as having quality problems in the corporate world. I don't like to hear this because I'm long a LARGE number of shares, and I really hope they address these issues.

EP retiring? Did anyone hear a report on CNN that EP may be retiring? I got this rumor third hand, but have no verification through trustworthy news sources.

I hope this isn't the case, as I am long on cpq, and think EP is my best chance to make some money.
