Two comments...from Islip, LI...via modem <G>.

There is chaos in wireless standards and transmission frequencies....some cellphone mfgs actually make as many as 1,000 different models of handset. Most of the differences are on the inside. This chaos will continue for at least a couple more years, as the standards discussion for the newest generation (G-3) has broken down, and essentially been abandoned. This will be good for TFS, which is a custom component manufacturer, even at handset volumes.

The Irridium handset costs (will cost) about $3,000, and is the size of the "handheld" computers. Time will be VERY expensive. Not a market yet. That will be a fixed-base deal. Incidentally, there is an absolute blizzard of satellites coming, a fact I had not appreciated.

That website referenced by SIS upthread is pretty good. Dumped several articles to read on the plane. I tell you no lie...Ericsson would be a wonderful partner/customer for us. Big in China, too.

MOT in China is trying to get the govt to force ERICY and Nokia to use local content, a situation for which they are not prepared. That would give MOT a temporary time advantage in that market....which some think will be the BIGGEST handset market by 2002. This is a tough business. TFS could help out Nokia and ERICY in a big way on local content, if they are not selling the entire production to MOT. They need us....we need them...let's make a deal. Or, twenty deals.

Thanks for the inaugural award, Floyd......I accept. <G> mcd
