The LANL pricing is a bit biased, But "Avalon" as the Intel/Linux
cluster is known, is a pretty good machine. I knew the guy
that built it when I was there. They did not include the programmers
and administrative costs of rewriting MPI, tcp/ip, or experienced
folks doing the setup. The information on this project is at:

Basically you need to piece together hardware and software from
various vendors and public sources. Fix portions so that it works
together efficeintly, and internally maintain it all.
Here is the FAQ

A good deal, yes. As long as, you have excellent support/programmers
internally. It is not exactly ideal for your 'joe corporate' user
or engineer.

Actually Princeton has a Intel/Linux cluster also.
