>>>CS, perhaps I'm slow, but what does a six month delay in a 64 bit superchip for servers have to do with hampering the sale of low priced PCs?<<<

Merced is not just for servers, but was the next generation to replace pentium, no?

I believe the thinking is that, if, INTC delays the new chip, then they will not have to drop prices of existing chips....usually they dramatically drop prices when they need to clear inventory to make room for a new product...these price drops have already been priced in by analysts who calculate the growth in the PC market...a six month delay neans no price drops and PC prices will stay more expensive through the Xmas selling season, and that will equal, fewer sales.............;^)
