Well you have a sense of your family's history. That's important. The occupation of Ireland and the resultant destruction of the GPO in Dublin erased all but the memories of my mother and an old picture or two. She would tell stories about how she had to learn Irish in the hedge-rows because the English would not permit it. Of how cattle traders would speak with each other, one in Greek and the other in Latin, to confuse the Black and Tans. Then, to spend my social life in this country listening/reading of other people's opinion that because I'm a white male of Euro descent I am responsible for American Slavery. There is not a country on the planet that does not have a social issue to be ashamed of. I'm tired of being a target for people who wish to lay American history's low points points at my doorstep. Even the concept of the Irish Question being a religious issue is a fabrication of the British media. Quite honestly I would not flame you or anyone else because of your opinion of America. I do get ticked off when someone lays the broad claim that whites in this country are responsible for 200 years of negative history. I sincerely hope that these people have children who are blamed for this history, in the same fashion as I have been for 46 years, merely because someone decided to carry a torch for an issue that should be worked out together....not used as an incendiary device to start trouble.
