ironROD,

Sounds interesting but since I'm working in the San Francisco bay area I don't hear a lot of rumors that are circulating around at ICG headquarters in Denver. I work in Oakland but hope to move to the new ICG sales office in San Francisco later this summer. Hopefully by the time that happens the San Francisco switch will be operational. Right now we have Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose up and running.

Steve

Please let us know who the rumored acquirer is and a few people here might be able to intelligently respond. Otherwise it's impossible to speculate on this specifically. I invested in ICGX immediately upon the announcement of Brooks Fiber's acquisition by WCOM. It dawned on me at that time that anyone decent in the biz probably get bought in a matter of a year or two. ICG's purchase of Netcom was meant(IMO) to sweeten the pot more than any other reason.

To narrow the field a bit, the only public or soon to be public CLECs that have larger parent companies are as follows: Nextlink(NXLK) which has Craig McCaw as sponsor, Time Warner Comms, which is about to come public and is a sub of TWX, Electric Lightwave (ELIX) which is a sub of Citizens Utilities (CZN), Teligent (TGNT) backed by NTT and Associated Group (AGRPA), and Hyperion (HYPT) backed by Adelphia (ADLAC). Also the obvious TCGI which is about to be acquired by ATT. Of these, it would be surprising if Time Warner, Electric Lightwave or Hyperion were buyers. Time Warner is in the process of coming public, ELIX's parent is restructuring its businesses and is probably more a seller than buyer, and the same could be said about Hyperion/Adelphia. It also seems unlikely that ATT/TCGI would try anything while their deal has yet to close. Have I forgotten anyone? What do you think?
