[I'd say the Apple case is an extremely weak parallel. That one was dubious from the start...]

A company has a product that's getting hammered in the market by MSFTs "unfair" Windows version of the same feature. This company itself based their product on a third parties work. Weak parallel to the browser case...we'll have to disagree.

The Dan's of the day predicted loudly and passionately that the Apple case would be the end of Microsoft and that the bad PR would irreparably damage their reputation. It didn't.

[There's all that email, with the "colorful" language...]

...that makes it look like MSFT is a ruthless, determined, and aggressive competitor. So? That's already the public's perception. If anything, this will add to the Gates mythology, which is a net positive for the company.

[You think Bill's weasel words will get into any future settlement without extremely intense scrutiny?]

I think it got intense scrutiny the first time. Do you think the judge will rule that MSFT can't integrate new capabilities into Windows? I don't.

For what it's worth, first of all I'd advise Bill to quit acting as his own attorney, but that's repetitious as usual.

That's definitely been going on. Either that or Neukom simply has no personality left.
