>>I find it interesting/coincidental that 3COM releases Navy certification of it's ATM equipment right after Sprint says it will have a new phone system based on Cisco's ATM.
It was this news that I was thoroughly impressed with today. Was anybody else impressed with this news?<<

ABSOLUTELY!!!

1) Billion dollar contract

2) "received certification for all eight products it submitted,
surpassing the number of products certified by any other vendor"

It's products are just as good as anybody's.

Extremely high quality to pass Naval approval/certification.
The contract process must have been brutal.

3) Ability to handle a huge project from end-to-end.

4) Good rapport with the Government. Most likely, there
will be lots of other major contracts with the Gov't.

5) Anotherwords, it proves to the whole world that it's just
as good at Networking as anybody else, if not better.
They can provice THE FULL SOLUTION at a reasonable price.

I remember this contract with the Navy from a while ago.
They had gotten through the early rounds of the proposal
process and were one of the main companies weeded out.
(In fact, I may have even mentioned it...)

It's just too bad we have to be mired in this modem
horsemanure for a while. Either way, COMS's long term
product will win out. That's what I'm betting my $$ on.

At the moment, the price is a steal. If I could, I'd
sell my house, etc. to round up more cash!!!

They are different news. In other words, their ATM in the news are non directly competing products. Sprint most likely is looking at the carrier class (ie. public switch), and 3Com certified their ATM boxes for enterprise/campus solution. The carrier ATM switch costs 5-10x over the one that 3Com sells.

The news are interesting nevertheless; it shows that ATM is alive in spite of all the hype from Gigabit Ethernet.

I forgot to comment on the timing. Actually, I
was struck by how it coincides with the end of the
quarter. Moonray (I think) commented on how we've
gotten a handfull of good news today. COMS
way of trying to tell us something???
