Mike, are we seeing a domino effect affecting the "Eastern Western" economies of New Zealand and Australia? New Zealand ,arkets have been hitting new lows daily recently.

If that is the case, and if Russia does not come out of its own tail spin, the plague may spread to our shores. Start watching first the Hungarian, Polish and Chechian (sp) markets, they are weakening. These will finally affect Germany and the whole ECU structure. Someone better come to Russia's rescue or the whole world will pay in a good 5% decline in the GGB over the next three years.

I say it would be much cheaper for us (and Europe) to loan (even if we never get it back) $20 Billion over three years to Russia than let the state of affair deteriorate there. If we let it deteriorate it will cost us upward of $300 billions in the long run.

Mike absolutely. Ref. yours "Japanese money, which accounts for one-sixth of the international flow of funds, is pouring into the United States in search of higher returns. About 600 billion dollars a year is going to the United States, supporting the economy of the world's largest debtor nation".

Now we have Trellers/Saloman the owner of 25% of Nikko Securities. How soon will these peole take to start dipping into the $6-$10 pool of Japanese savings???? Ten minutes?

Anyone who thinks this market here is going down should have his head examined. GE @ $175? GM @ $185. Then, that will be a bubble! At that point, when we have munched the savings of the whole world, let me give you some hearfelt advice....DO NOT EVER... WALK UNDER TALL BUILDINGS...PEOPLE WILL BE COMING OUT OF THEM LIKE OUT OF CONTROL PROJECTILES!!

Mike and Worswick,
"About 600 billion dollars a year is going to the United States, supporting the economy of the world's largest debtor nation."
I find it hard to believe that $600 billion a year has flowed into the US markets from Japan. For how long? I'm not sure where to start doing the math, but surely that is impossible. What is the capitalization of our entire market? Not even $10 trillion yet, last time I saw the numbers. What is the capitalization of the bond market? Bigger than equities, but I'm not sure by how much, and don't know where to find out.

Any comments on this remarkable claim?

Boy, these guys have short memories <g>: Remember the days when the Nikkei was 40000 (was the high even 48000?, don't remember anymore) and at every auction the Japanese buyers were buying the most expenisve paintings like van Gogh's "Sunflowers".Wonder if it still hangs in the Nippon Life's CEO lounge <g>.

<< ... New York stock prices, which have hit unprecedented "bubble" levels. >>

I really love that "unprecedented". Ha-Ha-Ha!!!!!!!!!!
