Jim, what makes you say Barry Goldwater's second wife was a tart? He suffered immensely when Peggy died after a very long struggle with diabetes, including amputations. That is very, very hard to watch. In the Charlie Rose interview done in 1986 he almost starts crying just talking about her. Don't people deserve some happiness? I don't think Goldwater went soft in the head at all, except in the sense that he aged (like we all do). I thought he was a wonderful man with great respect for women, Native Americans, and someone who truly honored freedom. The fact that he ended up being a libertarian who supported homosexuals and abortion, not simply a pawn of the religious right, is just another example of his integrity.
