Moreover, India has not developed the medium-range missiles that could reach Chinese cities,
whereas it is vulnerable to Chinese nuclear attack.

So the argument goes that Indians should not develop any missiles that could reach China. Is it not a deterrent that the Indians develop long-range missiles. How come he does not talk about deterrence?

for Pakistan, its military has developed various nuclear responses -- from tactical weapons to an
all-out attack on New Delhi and Bombay

Laughable! It is common knowledge that India has superior weapons, both conventional and nuclear. India is going sit still absorbing all those missiles. No way. More over Pakistani military has not developed the nuclear weapons and missiles. It is also well known that Pakistani nuclear program will fall apart, unless propped up by China.

India has also needlessly angered the Clinton Administration, contributing to President Clinton's
greatest foreign policy disaster.

US Govt agencies and the administration did not see, hear or talk about the South Asian nuclear genie like the wise monkey. It looks like they were blind, deaf and mute. Some wisdom.

India is now blamed for triggering a new round of proliferation, and Congress is unlikely to be sympathetic to any easing of the sanctions.
Tell me when Congress was sympathetic to India's defense, scientific and economic needs.

India's bombs were supposed to elevate it to the status of a great power. Instead, India finds itself
with a worsening relationship with Pakistan, China and the United States.

What should India do now in order to please Pakistan, China, and US?
Give up Kashmir to Pakistanis, give up whatever territory occupied by China and eliminate all conventional and nuclear weapons to please US. Balkanize the country, let the pakistanis
and China occupy the rest of the country and let all our children start learning Chinese as their first language. Very neat, but better live free or die

If any body can see the height of stupidity, callousness and Nixonian tilt, this is what it is.
