JR.. let me ask you a question. "Why does India feel "suddenly" threatened. I will tell you where I am going in a minute.

Ref yours:What should India do now in order to please Pakistan, China, and US? Give up Kashmir to Pakistanis, give up whatever territory occupied by China and eliminate all conventional and nuclear weapons to please US. Balkanize the country, let the pakistanis and China occupy the rest of the country and let all our children start learning Chinese as their first language. Very neat, but better live free or die."

A bit of historical background:

First, the old "masters" of India, the British, felt incredible paranoia about Russia and it's "intentions" in India. Three generations were spent nurturing this paranoia. Previous to the that Hindus of North India were the mice that the Muslims feasted on for a period of 8-15 generations. Before that the history of the subcontinent is a history of invasion and loss by the indigenous populations. You Indians are not even "Indians"...you are the genetic sum total of successive invaders.

Returning to the present.

My question: "Why now?"

The why now is that the BJP needs an "outside" invader, like all nationalism in the 20th centruy to generate excuses for a regime that will be successively more aggressive in its domestic and international stances. Look for the Israli's to set up a internal secturity aparatus in India.

At the end you tell me a single secular state in the 20th century that has become a succesful religious state. Please don't tell me that the Indian constitutiion guarantees....

Just ask why al this is hppening now.

JPR: I think India should quit worrying about what 'others' think about their policies, both domestic and foreign. It seems everybody and his brother-in-law from London to Sydney wants to run the country.Seems a lot of them wants India to remain defenceless, poor and non-violent,something to do with Gandhi or something, jeeeeesus.
