re DELL building plant in Brazil

Thank you, Lee. I believe that Rosemary was the first to post rumors of a South American plant, but this is the first hard corroboration I've seen.

... (Topfer)...''We are the third-largest PC company in Europe and I expect there's a good chance we will be number two this quarter.''

Chairman and founder Michael Dell said: ''I think you will see Dell grow in Europe several times faster than the market this year.''

Dell currently holds 8.3 percent of the European market. European sales in the fiscal quarter that ended May 3 totalled more than $1 billion, climbing 62 percent.

Topfer also said he was comfortable with analyst estimates that fiscal 1999 sales would rise to between $17 and $18 billion, from more than $12.3 billion in the year ended February 1. ...

As I recall, certain of the long-term bears were expressing doubt that the $500MM debt instrument was for construction. Some even implied that DELL management was guilty of financial hocus-pocus. At this point, I'd like to go on record again as doubting the accuracy of those bears' predictions. <g> Of course, I would never dream of impugning their motives.

Actually, the scale of the construction is so large, in essence more than doubling DELL's current production capacity, that it would almost certainly have impacted earnings without the debt issue.

Makes you wonder how many employees DELL is laying off this year... <g>

DELLish, 3.

Hi Lee:OTOT
Thats a nice article on Dell, added Brazil to the list too????
I guess the developing nations are starting to put grains in boxes now instead of in sacks as was customary here, so they will
need a box-maker on-site to put the morning cereals in.
How do you say 'Post Toasties' in Chinese??? Do they have a 'Jack Armstrong' equivalent , like 'Jack Chang'. I guess we came close to having a 'Troy Aikman' automobile until the team fell apart.
How about a Chicago Bull breakfast( that would contain a lot of fruit and nuts)????(G)
Anyhow they will probably need a lot of those boxes(ggg)
( Things don't seem quite right here, it was 103 yesterday
and its just past May)
8 Mill shrs traded in 1 1/4 hours and up 2 7/16??. Maybe Dell
could let TM do all their publicity.( just kidding)
Sig
