SLICKSTER TO BE IMPEACHED?

''We will be blunt,'' Starr wrote in replying to the White House
contention, raised again Monday, that some of the testimony being
sought by investigators is protected by the attorney-client privilege.
''The nation has a compelling interest that this criminal investigation of
the president of the United States conclude as quickly as possible --
that indictments be brought, possible reports for impeachment
proceedings issued, and non-prosecution decisions announced. This
court's immediate review would powerfully serve that vital goal.''

LEWINSKY TESTIMONY FOR IMMUNITY JUST AROUND THE CORNER?

"These are not the guys you hire if you want to fight the case,'' said Washington lawyer Mark Hulkower, who as a federal prosecutor headed the spy case against Aldrich Ames when Cacheris negotiated a guilty plea and life prison term. Ames had faced a possible death penalty.

Washington lawyers who know both men said their new presence is the case may be a signal that Ms. Lewinsky intends to cooperate with the special prosecutor. Cacheris also is well-known at the federal courthouse in suburban Alexandria, Va., where Starr could bring an indictment against Ms. Lewinsky, Hulkower said. Cacheris' brother, James, is a federal judge in Alexandria. "

Mark this post for reference next November. Rush today predicted that the Repubs "will win big" this fall. If he's right that's the end of WJC.

I, on the other hand, am afraid they're going to boot it away.
