>>Did you start the immigrations discussion again last night?

No, it was I who did so--I responded to Patrick's post from yesterday morning -- after deliberately staying quiet about it during the day in an effort not to disrupt the thread during trading hours. I felt a need to respond to lisa this morning because I was offended by the tone of her post to me--leave aside the fact that I disagreed with much of the content.

I guess that being told to "leave the country" is something that I don't take kindly to--just because someone deems or may construe that I am "trashing" the country--whereas I feel that I am merely expressing disagreement with something that bothers me.

I think that telling someone to leave the country if they don't like it, while logical at a rudimentary level, is rather sophomoric and not productive. I posted to lisa that she should do so -- but it was more an attempt to demonstrate to her that it is not particularly pleasant to be the recepient of such an edict.

>>I think we need to turn off the thread after 7 EST, it seems that after the moon comes out that there is 1,000 times more trouble and animosity on the thread<<

What is needed is the ability to disagree without getting personal. Most times this thread is very civil and collegial and I hope that it can stay that way.

What is amazing to me is that this got as heated as it did -- here are the three initial posts that started my involvement in this discussion--I have read and re-read my response and certainly don't see anything that I said that could be deemed to constitute "trashing" the country.

But I suspect that this "leave the country" b-s is not a new phenomenon--here is an excerpt from a private message that I received which seems to validate it as being a recurring theme.

>>When some of us began protesting the Vietnam War years ago, we were often told to "go back to Russia where you belong". Eventually this suggestion became rather impractical, since it would have resulted in the depopulation of 3/4 of our natural-born youth in the 15-30 age
range! So, I don't think immigrants need to be too concerned about being told to leave. Perhaps it is a sign that they have "made it" as mainstream Americans<<

Still trying to figure out what this market wants to do next -- the market seems quite schizophrenic at this point.

Yankees finally dusted themselves off. Where are the Mets now, 10 in a row?

Unreal. Piazza may just have been the spark.

Anyway....the market decided to crack a tad just as I was going to go hit balls.....I can't get a break.

Oh, well. If it drops enough I'll buy some Mid-West state and put in a killer golf course.
