We have a ton of pentiums in the 90 mhz to 166 mhz range
that will be replaced. I know that I am not going to
affect Intel, but is anyone else seeing this where they
work?

I think that you are not alone in this assessment and that INTC actually delayed Merced because there is no reason to degrade the PII before it's time...our first clue that things were OK was two weeks ago when DELL came out with good, but not great earnings.

Analysts are bozo's. You can bet that HMQT will be on the Bid all day tomorrow, probably disguised as INCA...

I work for a government agency and we have decided, based on a number of factors, that we can no longer wait to upgrade pentium class machines, many of which were purchased in 96.

What's the big need to upgrade pentium class machines to pentium II's? Sounds like a huge waste of tax dollars. Can you justify this expense?

J - Re: ", based on a number of factors, that we can no longer wait to upgrade pentium class machines,"

Would you mind taking the time to delineate some of these factors?

Thanks.

Paul

Tom, >>> "I personnally
purchased 100 machines over the past month and expect to
have to purchase many more."<<<

Sign those purchase req's, baby. Need any help?

We don't have any mass upgrades going on, but the standard, when someone's 486 or < 200 MHz Pentium just isn't cutting it (you have to prove you need more power), is PII 233 or 266. For CAD or other heavier duty app, it's also what you can get by your boss (PII 400 to dual PPro usually, to date).

We are getting ready to start building/shipping Xeon servers. Getting the mechanical packaging design (cooling critical for these puppies), regulatory testing (FCC, CE mark, etc.) out of the way. System integration, test and benchmarking follow. Expect to start shipping racks full of nodes sometime mid third quarter.

Keep up the good work, Tom.

Regards,

Tony
