I think you're looking too hard for the negatives. I found Ballard's comments very positive. Yes he sounds very confident, as well he should given his company's track record. Couple his comments with the Boottime posting, and I'm drinking deeply from that glass of water.

S3 Savage interview

Informative interview with S3 director of marketing. He seems to do a better job than 3DFX's PR boys. Yes, it is just PR stuff, for now.

>HARDgame: What sort of performance and graphic quality can gamers expect from the Savage3D?

Schuster: The best.ÿ We have higher frame rates than Voodoo2 demoing today; we have S3 texture compression (S3TC) -- which Microsoft licensed for DX6ÿ -- for the best AGP texturing rates; we offer trilinear filtering with no performance penalty; we have 24-bit color image quality; and we have engine fill rates that deliver incredibly high frame rates.<

Interview with the Voodoo3 competition.

. Big time vapor but mouthwatering nevertheless! Check out Combat Sim's interview with the 3D Glaze boys. I don't think these guys can afford a PR man.

While I am never one to enjoy lack of information from a company, I don't see the need for the company to defend itself from irrational speculation in the market by making press releases that do not coincide with strategic direction. The company knows as well as anyone how their stock reacts. Come the third week of June analysts will once again look at the industry and see the domination of 3Dfx and start bidding up the stock again as we get closer to earnings.

What the company is NOT doing is getting as distracted as most on this thread by the gyrations of the share price. Traders love this company since the shares are so volatile. Nothing 3Dfx can control is going to stop this. Live with it!

Look to current sales and take solice at the brisk pace (the cards are very hard to keep in stock due to demand). Given that sales haven't slowed yet and the chips will be throughout the quarter rather than just one and a half months like last quarter's numbers will be good.

Additionally, the more time 3Dfx can keep quiet the less likely consumers will put off purchasing the Voodoo II to see how the Banshee performs (even though Banshee is marketed towards OEMs). It also limits the amount of time competitors can counteract the marketing campaign that 3Dfx will initate with the official release of the chipset.

IMNSHO: Ballard saying "We'll release Banshee details when they are ready" at the same time Boot is posting those details (without a press release I might add) _proves_ how screwed up the TDFX PR and IR departments are. Very embarassing. Thank goodness for the technical folks at this company!

Who here is talking to TDFX? They should be given this feedback . . .
