X, I think your general genetic theory is correct about free thinkers. However, my understanding of this kind of intellect is that the bearer would be quite intelligent in relation to the general population, which in itself limits the number of free thinkers at any one time. And even if one has the big brain required, the advantages of parents who do not squelch nonconformity, and access to books and the formal teaching of critical thinking skills are advantageous to optimal development. Free thinkers tend to foment revolution and create chaos as well. They need followers, to, um, follow them!!! So there is not really a need for a great number of them at any given time.
