It may be meticulous attention, but I don't think compatibility is always the goal. I've heard the war cry was once something like "DOS isn't done until Lotus won't run," which certainly doesn't seem to support your claim.

What is your perspective on that, as a Microsoft employee?

mozek: Seems like Billy is getting a little worried when he sends his developers over to this thread. WIN95 might have put a lot of time into compatibility issues, but they did not put enough time into the quality of the product. It's junk.

attack to what was a statement of fact regarding SUNW's
ownership of Java.

The chorus of developers who have "bought the Java hype" is
