Nortel (Northern Telecom) Develops an Integrated IP Data/Optical Networks Webtone Management Solution PR Newswire - June 04, 1998 13:51 NTL. NT %TLS V%PRN P%PRN ATLANTA, June 4 /PRNewswire/ - Nortel (Northern Telecom) today announced that service providers operating a network comprised of both IP Data and Optical equipment will be able to manage their network with a system based on its successful Integrated Network Management (INM) Broadband solution. The first enterprise management system that Nortel has selected to integrate with INM Broadband is the Cabletron Systems' SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager. Nortel is presently using these two combined systems to manage parts of its own network in Ottawa. The capability developed by Nortel is aimed at the data operations group within a network service provider and large enterprise customers. From their data network management workstations they will see a customized view of their Optical services supporting the data network. An in-house trial of Nortel's INM Broadband working with Cableton's SPECTRUM solution to link two R&D campuses in Ottawa is underway. The new capability enables a computing support group - users of SPECTRUM to monitor computing and LAN services - to manage optical facilities in addition to their data facilities. INM Broadband is a member of Nortel's INM family of network management solutions. It offers comprehensive network management functionality across multiple technologies and services. INM Broadband already has over 200 customers worldwide and manages more than 50,000 broadband network elements in service. INM Broadband offers network management across multiple technologies and services (SONET/SDH, ATM, IP, switching, digital video, radio, digital cross-connect, and digital loop carrier/access) in an open architecture where standards-based protocols (CORBA, OSI, SNMP, TL-1) can be integrated through Managed Object Agent (MOA) software. Multi-vendor networks that use complicated arrays of proprietary operations tools can rely on INM Broadband to simplify their operations since it integrates MOA software modules to provide a comprehensive management solution.
