JP, I thought that you might return the movie and get another copy to see if it does the same thing. Some new discs have imperfections from the pressing (injection molding) process and handling. If a second disc does the same thing, then it's likely a mastering problem. If not, then it's probably a manufacturing problem. It could be both....

If you have another DVD player in your lab, it would be interesting to see how the disc plays.

For starters which studios produced them?
