Peak and NF seem to know the business, and I'm one of the few fools in the business that uses my real name... I don't think its "sour grapes" - these sorts of facts, intuitions, and opinions are generally developed for a reason, and I have my own sources which can be relied upon to back up what you are reading recently. I do not dispute that OTEXF has an interesting product with a lot of potential. But I too am scratching my head over IDI. While I'm in the business and work with a couple of the 'leaders' already, when it comes to investing I don't care where I make my money. I've avoided doing anything serious OTEXF for some time because of unemotional analysis. Consider that while OTEXF currently have a leg up in a particular aspect of document / knowledge management / intranet groupware - however you want to classify or pidgeon hole them - they do not, yet, have a sustainable strategic advantage that could prevent one of the other big guns from getting smart and moving more directly into competition in OTEXF's sweet spot. My sense is that FILE has too much on its hands to also focus in this area; DCTM has excellent focus which seems to be working for it; DOCSF could be a possibility; mergers between a couple of established players might be a factor; potential (slim) for another upstart. Then there is the MS Exchange camp (Eastman, FrontOffice, Microsoft themselves) and Lotus. I don't think the future is crystal clear yet for any of the aforementioned players. But again, OTEXF has interesting stuff which is currently playing well. It will be interesting to see what they do with their latest acquisition. unemotionally yours...
