Congrats to some of the posters here who turned me onto DIGI last year. Maybe VLSI will be as good for me, but this time for a longer and more profitable time.

(PC market, AMD bad business until they get over the 25% thing, MOT, cellular inventory issue, VLSI comm + STB play, DIVX far from guaranteed - suspect it will bomb or be at most minute niche - not sure though)

Trey:

There is a PC glut right now - so INTC's misfortunes do not nec. translate into AMD's fortunes. There is talk even of a low-end glut and that will hurt the non-INTC companies even more.

As to AMD those guys have the dumbest slogan around - we will beat the price of INTC's chips by 25%. This is suicidal. Competing against the best manufacturing company around they are then going to charge 25% less - a guaranteed way to not make money - when you don't make money, you can't upgrade to the latest and greatest equipment - a certain way to put yourself out of business. They're dumb.

MOT is dumb as well and I agree it is a mgt. thing + a serious miscalculation about cellular. Guessing about MOT: Message 4733962

RE: VLSI - I don't know for certain but there may still be somewhat of a cellular glut - an inventory problem so to speak. Nevertheless VLSI is a dirt cheap wireless play. I disagree about DIVX - I sense that this will bomb - but we shall just have to see how this pans out in the next few quarters. I think around 3 million DVD players will be sold this year. If DIVX gets even 100,000 I'll be impressed (more likely around 50,000 will be the max.). Plus DIVX does not port to the PC (I think) while DVD does. Sega is not going well. The other VLSI strengths are the CDMA chip and STBs both of which they will do well in.

Even so VLSI will rebound - I was surprised to see 16 1/2 so soon - minutes after my writing that it is a sure 20% return over the next fe weeks [from ~15 to 18-19], it got up and bolted forward. Again when the fear over the semis dissipates VLSI should hit 18-19 and settle. Longer term the stock should do quite well.
