I agree with you that the price seems to be quite high for consumers, but is not bad (just IMHO) for businesses which a renting T1 lines at much higher rates.

If you think that ALA by reducing CO's modem price from lets say $500 to $300 will substantially improve BEL's offering, then I disagree. The difference in $200 in 5 year depretiation scenario translates into $3 to $5 a month. The major cost is the backbone.

Several more issues to consider: what are your alternatives in Pittsburg??
Do you have @Home or Time Warner's data-cable available as alternative?
Would you tolerate bandwidth sharing and quality of service from cable cos, as opposed to BEL?
