yakov--

thats almost exactly what i thought. however, while there may not be any urgent need for LU and WSTL to merge, there may be factors of which we are unaware. until today i thought ALA was going after DSL hard core. after today, i have some serious doubts. i dont think they care too much about ADSL anymore, except as it relates to a driver for DIGIs products<G>.

only time will tell, but i think the 'smart' money is wrong on the deal. ALA wants DLC business, for them i think ADSL is something they are backing away from. look at their deal with HAYZ. that means that they may be willing to set up a partnership with WSTL.

LU buying WSTL could throw a real wrench in that plan.

good luck to all,
trey

Yakov,

<< I don't see any urgent need for LU to buy WSTL>>

Just for the sake of argument,

- what if Nortel or ASND will buy WSTL and LU will lose a partner? - what about CSCO strength as a competitor to LU, which bought NetSpeed and has its own ADSL capability,
- what about Rockwell, wich bought PAIR's Falcon and pushing their own chips on V.90 modems?
- what if 3Com will buy WSTL and incorporate the technology into their X.2 line of modems

All this what ifs might be quite negative for LU. On the other hand LU might be after some big fishes, like ASND or BAY.
