(See Movers & Shakers.) uniView, an online services company that pushes Web and television integration, said Web telephony capabilities using Lucent's technologies will be made available to interactive television and Internet device markets, providing users with quick Internet access and e-mail as well as call waiting and caller ID. DELAY The project is the first in the companies' partnership. uniView said it expects to deliver the new platform to Lucent and uniView customers in the third quarter of 1998. "With telephones in more than 94 percent of U.S. households and the Internet becoming a part of everyday life, it is imperative that telephony and Internet devices be fast, efficient and user-friendly," uniView President and Chief Executive Patrick Custer said in a statement. Under the partnership, uniView will develop, deliver and license the Web telephone and Internet service support and provide information services for customers. Lucent said it will give its Web telephone reference design and operating system for the new platform, and the company will provide uniView with a larger customer base.
