Bill; Are DLC's still being deployed or are we mainly talking upgrades for ADSL? We've all assumed that Alcatel will have some sort of inside track to Bell Atlantic DMT ADSL because of their purchase of DSC. If we're just talking upgrading the DLC's I don't see how ALA would have an advantage because they own the manufacturer of the switches, switches which BA has already purchased. Seems to me the field is open to any and all solutions, may the best (and cheapest) win.

DMT still doesn't the power issues resolved and I guess that's the reason Alcatel has a separate unit for the DLC as opposed to a line card. You've got to think Alcatel is working on a line card solution, seems to me that's the easiest upgrade (like you mentioned), but you'd also have to think Westell has the lead as they've been working with DSC for quite some time. Could be that Bell will want to use the Westell line card rather than this, after all it's their switches, their choice.

ALA Mini-Ram: The company's compact unit can fit inside the metal cabinets that house DLCs in the phone network and can be connected to the network by spare copper lines. The Mini-RAM is roughly the dimensions of a pizza box and houses two four-line cards. It can support either full-rate ADSL or the lower-rate product in development for the consumer market. The Alcatel system is in beta trials now and is due in the third quarter.

I think this merger is all about ADSL and DLC's....While things seem bad now, I don't think I'm selling, certainly not today with Supercom starting monday.

I don't know if this has been posted before, but it's the official ADSL website. I get ADSL service in September; lucky me. It's too expensive to justify for what I need right now.
