Christopher, I agree with you. Anyways, there is little hard information on these threads, so too much depth will not be required. I will now adhere to your categories, and hopefully others on this thread will, too. You omitted, however, Emphatic Exclamations (my favourite: "This dude ain't goin' [north][south] no more."). Products: How is Adaptec's line of 1394 products? It sells three 1394-compliant cards: - the HotConnect Ultra 8945, which combines 1394 (25MB/sec) with SCSI (40MB/sec)- they coexist on the card; - the HotConnect 8920, which is purely a 1394-to-PCI card for desktop PCs; - and the AHA-8940, billed as the first video-capable host adaptor and introduced last year. Adaptec has established partnerships with Canon, DPS, Epson, Pinnacle, and ProMax: each includes the AHA-8940 in DV editing kits. Appears Adaptec is fairly well position to support the emergence of 1394 products as they enter the market. Although USB (Universal Serial Bus) will connect multiple peripherals to a computer just as will 1394, there apparently are some major differences--primarily in data throughput (1394 transfers data at 25MB/sec; USB at only 1.5MB/sec) and 1394 has future improvements in development that will increase the flow up to 125MB/sec. Not so USB. Adaptec says the two will coexist in computers of the future. Can anyone comment on the competition? What companies do as much or more? Who is the leader in 1394 adaptors? I have heard of Truevision's Bravado DV2000 card. Is it comparable to the AHA-8940? Starowl ADPTProducts
