rudedog,
Thanks for the great post. Reinforced some of my thoughts from a non technical general business prospective.

rudedog...Thanks for your contributions and the sharing of your knowledge base. I have used your posts as examples for my young son as to why it is important to understand more than just how to click a mouse button and to stimulate a desire to learn more about this fascinating industry.

S3 & COMPAQ COMPUTER GRAPHICS

Franz

I thought that a fellow investors might be interested in knowing that Compaq is using S3 (SIII) Compaq S3 ViRGE graphics controller, and S3 Graphics Driver,

compaq.com

You may also be interested in knowing all of the other big name companies that use S3 products.

have a look
s3.com

It's not a Intel or IBM but S3 is one of the biggest companies
in it's field.

thank you

Franz and Rudedog,

Something Rudedog forgot to mention is also the cost advantage of Alpha over Intel. Cost advantage? you say. Most definitely. The only reason Alpha is more expensive is the low volumes. Once people realize and accept the fact that Alpha can do anything an Intel chip can at twice the speed or greater you'll see volume increase and costs go down. IMHO I think Compaq buying DEC for their Services is a smoke screen and the real reason was to get control of Alpha. If DEC(Compaq) can get the quantities up there should be be tremendous potential here. The numbers I've seen (can't remenber where) show that Alpha has a lower transistor count than a Pentium II (I think maybe even Pentium MMX) so if they can get some Alpha acceptance in the market we'll see it really take off.

rudedog -
Thanks much for taking time out to do the post for me.

I needed that. Sorry for the dumb questions but I gotta ask them.

Makes me feel glad I took 20 long calls on top of the stock buy.

Franz

ps.
Incidentally, I'm probably going to have to buy a little equipment later this year (a server and two stations).

Can't decide when the best time will be.

Shoud I wait until CPQ/DEC can sort out their lines? Wait until fall COMDEX?
