Nortel just bought a 19% stake in LANPF (my contest stock pick!).

NT may also want BAY but LANPF competes with BAY in the LAN switching market. LANPF makes no WAN equipment but has some hot Layer 3 Giga-bit EN switching gear. Actually, I think that ASND/LANPF might fit well as ASND does not (yet) play in the LAN market.

As to NT/ASND - NT sells (but may not actually make their own) ATM equipment and access servers. Looks like too much product overlap for a complementary fit unless they aren't happy with their current product line (same goes for LU in my opinion).

BTW - NT and LANPF are Canadian and wasn't Cascade? If there is any synergy could it be business/tax related?
